I noticed a strange thing in the Shenzhen markets - most of the shops' calculators had a coin stuck to the little solar panel. I eventually asked a shop keeper why. I wonder if you can guess the reason [leave a comment] before I reveal all.

Is it that the Chinese believe in the old adage “There’s no such thing as a free lunch” so they have to try to pay for the “Free” electricity?

Ratch has the right idea - the coin on the calculator is to usher in further riches. I didn't see a calculator without a coin attached, so it's quite a widespread superstition there it seems.
