| JiaJia, JD and I spent a fun day up in London yesterday. We started at the Tate Modern gallery, where JiaJia loved seeing paintings up close that she had only ever read/studied about. I loved the huge spider [below] and other sci-fi inspired works. Then, after a picnic, we headed for the Museum of London which had some good pirate and WW2 exhibits, which JD enjoyed. Lovely weather, too. |

Ratch headed home today. We managed to squeeze a lot into the few days she was here - Lacock Abbey, Avebury standing stones, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and a Folk Festival in Chippenham. JiaJia enjoyed cooking some less-spicy Chinese food for her and showing her around the garden. JD enjoyed explaining his typewriter collection and winning at Monopoly, Barricade and Risk! A lovely guest to have visit.
We have my good friend Ratch staying for a few days. Her hobbies include jigsaws and singing in choirs, so we've told her she can't leave until JD's typewriter puzzle is completed! JD and I gave up gave up on it long ago! The other requirement whilst here is to teach JiaJia how to make Ratch's famous lemon drizzle cake. Oh yes, we certainly get our moneysworth out of our guests!
Undaunted by the fog last Sunday we visited our favourite Car Boot Sale in Dauntsey. You can (almost) see us parked up below!
A friend of mine tipped me off that Gary Numan had just announced a warm up (for Glastonbury) gig in Frome, in June. That's only 40 minutes drive from me. So today we bought two tickets for it. Very exciting! I've seen Numan twice in concert before, but the last time was in 1988. We've both aged a lot since than, but he's still producing excellent new music and still one of my favourite artists. Can't wait.
My brother Dave is a regular runner and enters a lot of 10k road races. He invited me to join him on a Hereford run last weekend. 5k is my usual distance but I thought I'd give it a go! We were amongst 750 runners, running through the streets of Hereford and along by the river. It was a hot day but, spurred on by the crowds, we made to the end in 1 hour 15 minutes. We've now planned to join in for another, bigger one in Cardiff later this year.
I posted a picture of it on the Gerry Anderson Facebook page, making a joke about it being the only remaining part of "Cloudbase" after an attack by the Mysterons!
Despite suffering with a heavy cold and cough, I managed to drive the wife and son to three car boot sales over this Bank Holiday Weekend! Addicted? Maybe....
In searching through my sci-fi collection recently retrieved from my parents' attic, I found a brochure from a 1982 Gerry Anderson Convention I'd attended (and forgotten about) which included autographs from actors, composers, special effects artists and the man himself - Gerry Anderson.
I learned this morning that I have passed the second assignment (ILM501) of the Coaching Qualification which I have been working my way through for the last 6 months. This one was about 100 pages long. The next, and last, one will be shorter, but perhaps trickier for me. Hoping to complete everything by the Summer.
